The Concert Singers, the oldest independent choral group in Los Angeles, was established in 1948 as the Westchester Civic Chorus. Based in the Westchester area, the group has performed at many venues throughout Southern California and presented a wide variety of choral repertoire including sacred and secular seasonal music, traditional choral masterworks, premieres of new works, madrigals, pops, Broadway, and vocal jazz. They typically perform three concerts a year, plus occasional performances for local civic groups and corporations. Currently under the direction of Jenni Brandon, the group has received grants to help support and enhance their performances, including a grant from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Come sing with us! Who we are: We are the oldest independent choir in Los Angeles and we want YOU to be a part of our exciting 2011-2012 season! What we do: We sing three concerts a year plus occasional additional performances around the Westchester area. We sing a wide variety of choral repertoire including traditional choral masterworks, premieres of new works, pops, Broadway, and vocal jazz. How to join: Come and sing a “friendly” audition where we’ll get to know your voice and you’ll tell us about you and your musical background. You’ll sing some scales and you will perform a short a cappella song of your choosing to show off your voice. There will be a short sight-reading excerpt to determine your ability to read music, and some simple rhythmic and melodic patterns to sing back. What we expect: We want you to bring a love for singing and exploring choral repertoire in a fun and friendly environment. You should have some ability to read music and be willing to commit to our rehearsal and performance schedule for the 2011-2012 concert season. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:45 pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church (6323 West 80th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90045) from September through June. The Concert Singers to sing in Avery Fisher Hall on September 11 |

The Concert Singers will be performing in New York City's Avery Fisher hall on September 11th. This concert, sponsored by Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY), will honor the vicitms of 9/11 on the 10th anniversary of this tragic event. The Concert Singers will join other choirs from around the country on the stage in Lincoln Center to perform the choral/orchestral work "Memorial" by composer and conductor Rene Clausen. He will lead the singers in his work. We are very proud and excited to be a part of this concert in honoring the victims of senseless violence.
